Catalogue of works

A scholarly catalogue of Kasia Białek's work — in preparation. As of September 2026.

Editorial note. This catalogue is a catalogue raisonné in preparation. Following the principle observed in cataloguing the work of living artists: as long as the artist is working, the catalogue of her oeuvre cannot be closed — it stays open and grows. The living artist's involvement is an advantage here: it allows facts to be settled that could not be recovered years later.

Method. Each entry records only data documented and verified at source. Fields not yet established are marked plainly as in preparation — the catalogue distinguishes what is known from what still needs confirmation. Provenance is recorded as a chain (who, when and how acquired), and the names of private owners are withheld until they consent.

Scope and numbering. The catalogue opens with the body of stone corpus — three series in which the body of a woman and the body of the earth are one material. The catalogue number combines a series letter and a figure: P — The Approaching Fullness, R — Rozwarcie, W — Wazony, C — Cycuszki. Further series will be added.

I. The Approaching Fullness P

A series of stoneware spheres, inspired by humanity's first symbolic artefacts — spheres some 300,000 years old bearing the imprints of human hands, associated with the observation of the moon. An open series; each sphere is unique. Shown at BWA Municipal Gallery in Bydgoszcz (“Nów w Pełni / Beyond the Object”, 23 Apr – 7 Jun 2026, curated by Monika Osinkowska).

The series is numbered from the largest sphere down: Pełnia I — ⌀ 40 cm, Pełnia II — 34 cm, Pełnia III — 25 cm.

II. Rozwarcie R

A series of 26 vases — each different in shape, colour and dilation (the opening). A story about the bond between earth and the moment of birth; the founding form is the female womb. Each vase is made in a different size — the figure in the title denotes the opening diameter; the catalogue number is its position in the cycle of 26. Made from her own clay mix; part of the series is fired black, without glaze. Documented so far: 10, 11, 12 and 17 cm — the rest in preparation.

State of the series: dispersed — the vases were sold and are today in private hands. Three pieces remain in one private collection. Reconstructing the provenance of the rest is the work of this catalogue; owners are kindly asked to make contact.

III. Wazony W

A new series — a closed set of three objects (only 3), larger than Rozwarcie. Shown for the first time in “Czuły Punkt Widzenia” at the Institute of Design in Kielce (4 Sep – 22 Nov 2026). The surface evokes archaeological finds — the vases look excavated, altered by moisture, minerals and long contact with their surroundings. The effect is, however, achieved deliberately, with the artist's own glazes and technique; the surface records not the object's real history but the artist's attention to how time imprints itself on material. Ash-grey with cream abrasions. All made in August 2026, height 32 cm, signed on the base.

Currently on view in “A Tender Point of View” — Institute of Design, Kielce, until 22 November 2026.

Signature of the series: by hand on the base, in brown oxide — Kasia Białek · VIII/2026/no. (Roman month / year / piece number). The catalogue number follows the number in the signature. Documented pieces: 5, 6 and 7. A closed set: three objects.

IV. Instalacja C

A ceramic breast conceived as a ritual of tenderness — “a ritual in honour of the good”. It closes the body of stone corpus alongside Rozwarcie (womb) and The Approaching Fullness (cycle). A form recurring in the work since 2017. Two works in 2026: one of 16 elements (Kielce, private collection) and one of 9 elements (in the studio, available).
